In celebration of all the Mums in the world this Sunday, a few of us here at the office have shared our favourite memory of our mum, or a special Mother’s day, with you.

Sharon: “When I was young, my dad gave my brother and me $10 each to buy a Mother’s Day present. We went out and bought marshmallows and with the remaining money, a yo-yo each. Mum got the marshmallows and Dad wasn’t impressed [laughs].”

“As a mum, I loved it when the kids were in primary school and used to make their gifts. One day, Cameron made a toilet roll statue of me that he coloured in – I had straw for hair! He was so proud of it… I still have it.”

Peter: “I love the way my mum always made sure I was well fed and would go overboard when making sure my clothes were clean when visiting me in Sydney (I lived by myself). One day, I came home after football training with the boys for beers and nibbles. Mum turned it into beers and a feast. She then started stripping me in front of my friends to get my clothes washed. I was 20 but I felt like a five-year-old [laughs].”

Rachelle: “My favourite part of Mother’s Day is the tradition. We usually make mum breakfast in bed – either French toast (her favourite) or pancakes – then she opens her gifts and we get ready to go to lunch or the movies. We eat as much popcorn and chocolate as we can and then go shopping in the afternoon. Dad pays [laughs]. Just being together for the whole day, doing things we love to do, having fun… it’s the best. It’s always a perfect day.”

Maxine: “My mum always comes with me to my doctor and dentist appointments. I’m a big scaredy-cat – I’m terrified of needles – so throughout my whole life, she would never let me go alone. Mum is like that even though I’m part of a triplet. I recently got a new puppy, Cooper, and he’s my little bundle of joy. Mum looks after him for me while I’m at work. I love her to bits.”

Rhys: “I have two strong memories. When I was a kid, every year around Mother’s Day, there would be this old guy who lived down the road from us selling homegrown flowers for a couple of bucks. My sister, my dad, the family dog, and I would always walk down to get mum fresh flowers in the morning. She always loved those flowers.”

“Later on, when we were a little older, mum pointed out this lovely liquid filled gold and crystal ball ornament, which had a rose floating at the centre. We bought her the ornament three years in a row; not because she wanted a collection, but because every year she would unwrap the packaging and somehow it would fall and smash. Every year, for three years, without fail. We stopped after the third time [laughs].”

Here at Select, we appreciate the love and care of all mothers. If you are a Mum, we hope you enjoy your day, and if you aren't, we hope you treat her to something special. However, what is most important is you celebrate the day in a way that brings your family joy and happiness.

To share your favourite memories of your mum, we are currently hosting a competition on Facebook where you have the opportunity to win a gift hamper. Head to our Facebook page to get the details on how to enter.

Happy Mother’s Day!
